What Is Panel Bending?

What Is Panel Bending?
Panel bending is one of many methods used in the manufacturing of metal plates. Automated and semi-automatic processes, such as CNC panel bending, use CAD and CAM drawings to produce metal parts with strict tolerances. The panel bending system relies on specially designed panel bending machines. This process is different from conventional bending, which usually occurs on pressure mechanism actuators or progressive dies.
According to the specific requirements of the application, the CNC bending process may involve different types of panel bending, including:
Sharp — In sharp bending, the radius is smaller than the minimum bending radius, and the center of the radius will produce a crease to produce sharp bending.
Radius — The customized bending radius depends on the customer's unique specifications.
Step bending —Step bending involves a large bending radius, which is divided into several smaller bends that form a slightly larger radius.
Hemming — These bends consist of metal plate edges bent to 180 °, forming folded edges at the edges.
